INSEE conducts an annual household survey to measure household equipment, usage and frequency of use, use of government and e-commerce services. In 2016, the survey sample consisted of 27,000 households (some of which were interviewed by telephone and the majority via an internet and paper survey).
The European statistical office Eurostat has just published the data from the EU survey on digital household usage broken down by region. Only seven datasets from this survey are published with this level of detail.
The size of this sample (27,000 households) allows for comparisons, which must, however, remain conservative.
This graph is broken down into 40 regions (the 26 regions prior to the territorial reform and the overseas regions) and is taken directly from the Eurostat databases.

This graph details the data on the basis of the new regions: it has been made by calculating the average of the merged regions within 7 new regions. For the ten other regions whose perimeter has not been changed, the data are those of Eurostat.
Despite the grouping into 13 regions, substantial differences remain between regions.
- The gap would be 16 points between Île de France (90%) and Corsica (76%) for the proportion of households connected to the Internet. Three regions are above the national average (86%) for the proportion of households connected to the Internet: Île de France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Normandy.
- The difference is only 8 points between the Ile de France (85%) and Corsica (77%) for the use and frequency of Internet use.

The gap between France (all regions combined, 86%) and the overseas regions (72%) would be 14 points for the proportion of households connected to the Internet and 18 points for the use and frequency of Internet use.
It should be noted that the results of this survey do not necessarily coincide with those of the surveys conducted by the regional observatories of digital uses.
This is particularly the case for Corsica, which published the findings of its 2016 Barometer a few months ago.
