A new CNRS laboratory was created in January 2019: the Center for Internet and Society (CIS).
At the crossroads of disciplines such as sociology, law, history, economics, political science, information and communication sciences, computer science and engineering sciences, the CIS intends to build an independent and interdisciplinary research and expertise, capable of shedding light on the major technical controversies and the definition of contemporary policies related to digital technology, the Internet, and more broadly to computer science.
The Internet and Society Center aims to provide expertise and critical reflection on emerging digital issues, such as artificial intelligence (AI), the place of large platforms in the economy, the proliferation of robotics, etc.
Within the framework of its activities, the CIS also aims to be a laboratory for the development and promotion of good practices in the scientific use of digital technology (collaborative tools, digital methods of investigation, analysis and visualization of data, communication strategy, participatory research.
