The second edition of the Data Literacy Conference organized by the New Generation Internet Foundation (FING) has just ended in Aix-en-Provence.
According to the FING, " data is now a powerful vector for economic development, citizen empowerment and knowledge production, but it also raises legitimate concerns and power struggles. The rising idea of data literacy consists in enabling any decision-maker, collaborator, innovator, entrepreneur, researcher or citizen to understand the stakes, to discuss the sources and uses of data, and to take advantage of it in their own activity.
One of the speakers at the Data Literacy Conference, Simon Chignard, defines "algorithm literacy" as " the ability to understand, use and critique algorithms." " Algorithms are here to stay, whether we like it or not," he adds. " The challenge is to learn to live better with them, to be able to turn them back into objects, to deconstruct their workings to demonstrate their supposed omnipotence.
This 2nd international meeting brought together 150 data literacy experts and field actors.
The first edition in 2016 had mobilized more than 180 participants.
