With the Education and Training 2020 strategic framework coming to an end, the European Union set new targets for 2030 in early 2021. " At this stage, the average result for the 27 members of the European Union is behind each of the targets," notes the Directorate for Evaluation, Forecasting and Performance (DEPP).
- Participation in early childhood care and education: by 2030, at least 96% of children between the ages of 3 and the start of compulsory elementary education should participate in early childhood care and education
- Early exit from education and training: by 2030, the share of young people leaving education and training prematurely should be less than 9
- Low levels of basic skills: by 2030, the share of low-achieving 15-year-olds in reading, math, and science is expected to be less than 15 percent
- Low digital literacy: by 2030, the share of eighth-grade students with low digital literacy scores is expected to be less than 15 percent
- Higher education graduates: by 2030, the share of individuals aged 25-34 with higher education should be at least 45%.

With only 16.2% of students with low digital literacy skills, Denmark has almost reached the 15% target.
