The WikiConvention brings together contributors to Wikimedia projects from all over the French-speaking world for a weekend, in order to encourage cooperation between the various actors of the movement.
The first edition of the Francophone WikiConvention was held in 2016 in Paris. It had welcomed nearly 160 French-speaking participants from Algeria, Belgium, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Switzerland, Senegal, France, Tunisia, Canada and elsewhere.
From October 19 to 21, the Wikiconvention will be hosted by the Grand-Est region at the Maison de la Région, but also by the City of Strasbourg and in partnership with the Office for the language and culture of Alsace.
The program includes meetings on a wide variety of topics:
- The strategy of the movement.
- How to fight paid contributions
- Priorities and pedagogy: how to talk to newcomers?
- Reflections on the work of Wikipedia administration
- Introduction to vandalism control on Wikipedia
- Convincing educators to use Wikipedia as an educational tool
- Free didactic materials and cultural contents, towards a new pedagogical approach for language teaching
- WikiMOOC: A new way to learn to contribute to Wikipedia
- The wikimedia movement and OpenStreetMap in Ghana
