On November 17, 2016, the Minister of National Education, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem announced the launch of the PIX website at the start of the 2017 school year. Accessible to students, pupils, and any user, PIX is a free public website.
It allows to evaluate and develop one's digital skills through a series of tests and challenges (search for a precise information, locate a street, make a comment on a social network,...). The tests assess knowledge and know-how, but also the ability to identify digital issues.
The user can measure his skills but also learn. The score is expressed in "PIX points" and the results can be used to suggest training courses that correspond to needs. An official certification, recognized by the Ministry and companies, can be obtained in approved centers, and eventually, at a distance.
In accordance with the European reference framework DIGCOMP, PIX will assess digital skills on 8 levels and 5 major domains:
- Information and data - Communication and collaboration - Content creation - Protection and security - Digital environment
For middle school students from the fourth grade, high school students and students, Pix will gradually replace the B2I (brevet informatique et internet) and C2I (certification informatique et internet) issued by the Ministry.
The PIX website is currently available in Beta version. It is a State startup supported by the digital services incubator of the General Secretariat for the Modernization of Public Action (SGMAP). This program is divided into 4 phases:
- A public agent investigates a friction between administration and citizens.
- Two to four people build a digital product in less than six months.
- The team consolidates the service by expanding its target audience.
- An institutional operator takes over the service and ensures its continuity
