The government's Digital Economy Unit, in conjunction with the New Caledonia Digital Observatory, has released the results of the Digital Barometer.
- 81% of New Caledonians surf the Internet (+19 points compared to 2011). The digital divide remains, especially in areas far from urban centers.
- Digital uses are progressing at a steady pace, driven by the use of social networks. 61% of Caledonians are present on social networks, far ahead of the world average (42%).
- 70% of public services have a website. " The administration is gradually opening up to online procedures (service-public.nc portal, tax returns, etc.).
- Online trading is growing, although international transactions dominate.
- New Caledonia's digital sector is developing but is faced with a lack of skills. Half of the companies in the sector express real difficulties in recruiting locally. And 42% have high expectations, particularly for design/development and network administration jobs.
The government of New Caledonia, represented by the digital economy unit, was organizing the sixth edition of the meetings of the territory's digital facilitators in July 2018.
