The European Commission on March 13 invited start-ups and SMEs with technologies and innovations that could contribute to treatment, testing, surveillance or other aspects of the coronavirus epidemic to apply urgently for funding in the next round of the European Innovation Council.
With a budget of 164 million euros, this call is "bottom-up", which means that there are no predefined thematic priorities and that applicants presenting innovations relevant to the coronavirus will be evaluated in the same way as other applicants.
The Commission will work to accelerate EIC grants and blended funding (combining grants and equity) for coronavirus innovations, as well as to facilitate access to other sources of funding and investment.
The EIC is already supporting a number of start-ups and SMEs with coronavirus-related innovations that have received funding in previous rounds.
The deadline for applications to the EIC Accelerator is Wednesday, March 18 at 5:00 pm (Brussels time).
