The Micro-Folies program is a cultural policy device "outside the walls". These modular spaces integrate a digital museum, a Fab-Lab, a meeting space "and allow its visitors to be on both sides of the creation by being spectators but also creators".
Originally, the Micro-Folies are a concept implemented in 2017 by the public establishment of the park and the Grande Halle de La Villette, with a dozen national operators (Louvre Museum, Georges-Pompidou Center...). This is a kit offered to local authorities to promote cultural democratization.
"This concept can be set up in an existing building or in a new facility. This space is declined around a digital museum, allowing to discover works virtually, a scenic space open to live shows and cultural events, a FabLab, a café and educational elements around the works presented. This flexibility and modularity allow for an opening to the inhabitants and local cultural actors, in order to impulse a real dynamic of proximity". A partnership between the Ministries of Territorial Cohesion and Culture has been built to promote this innovative approach. Eligible for the city policy credits, the device also aims to create a dynamic with the cultural projects of the territories. It benefits from the support of the State services. The cost of joining the Micro-Folies network is €15,000, which is paid for by the Ministry of Culture. In 2018, the Ministry of Culture had initiated the deployment of 200 Micro-Folies, particularly targeting priority cultural territories, the living areas least well endowed with cultural facilities. These 200 Micro-Folies are now open or in the process of opening.
On the occasion of the installation of the National Council of Third Places, the Ministry of Culture has announced an extension of the Micro-Folies program, with the objective of opening 1,000 Micro-Folies in France and in the French overseas territories within three years. State co-financing between the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion will be set up to deploy the 800 new Micro-Folies.
The Micro-Folies initiative federates and mobilizes, among others, 12 major operators of the Ministry of Culture, initial partners of the project (the Louvre Museum, the CNAC Georges-Pompidou, the Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac Museum, the RMN-Grand Palais, the Château de Versailles, the Picasso Museum, Universcience, the Cité de la musique-Philharmonie de Paris, the Musée d'Orsay, the Opéra national de Paris, the Institut du Monde Arabe and the Festival d'Avignon)
