Data mediation is not the easiest or most publicized subject: the stakes are nevertheless high.
An InfoLab has been created in Grenoble, within the framework of the Tiers lieu La Turbine. Based on the same model as a FabLab, but dedicated to the discovery of digital data, theInfoLab is a discovery space around digital data.
It offers citizens, entrepreneurs, local authorities, and anyone else who wants to learn about data. The InfoLab organizes training sessions, workshops aiming at deciphering and building datavisualizations for example.
The InfoLab intends to " promote the ability of individuals to seize digital data as tools and participate in the creation of the digital commons. Whether it's by contributing to the OpenstreetMap free mapping database, mapping the world's forgotten territories in a Missing Map session, or sharing their air quality measurement data.
With the Grenoble CivicLab, it supports citizens who want to prototype a digital solution to urban challenges around the issues of waste, energy sobriety, new forms of sociality or urban travel.
For its second edition, Grenoble CivicLab invites citizens, students, entrepreneurs, associations, public actors, artists, digital professionals or simple users to "take up new challenges aimed at improving the city and local life around issues related to renewable energy, waste sorting, the night city, possible parades to the summer heat.
The InfoLabs charter
The Infolab, a space to discover and master digital data together. At the heart of the digital revolution, data describes and quantifies our environment: for example, through heights, durations, speeds, weights, temperatures, locations, users, heartbeats, schedules, prices, concentrations, materials, opinions, votes, evaluations, etc., which are accessible through digital tools.
Many of our daily actions are made possible or constrained by data, such as moving around the city with a GPS. Understanding and acting with digital data is now everyone's business and Infolabs are a way to make it accessible, understandable and controllable.
The Infolab is a space where people can meet and share, understand, transform and even build with digital data: things, projects, essential, useful or futile, often new, sometimes amazing!
