Participatory financing is increasingly popular with the public.
According to theCrowdfunding Observatory, in the first half of 2017 alone, 741,000 people would have financed a project via one of the 54 crowdfunding platforms that report their figures to this Observatory.
11,652 projects raised 153 million euros in the first half of 2017. During the same period in 2016, 10,889 projects raised €104 million.
While the number of projects has only increased by 7% in one year, the amounts collected have increased by 47%.
92% of "participatory financiers" are donors
Among the 741,548 participatory financiers surveyed, 5.3% (39,288) used these platforms to make loans, remunerated or not: they alone account for 52% of the amounts collected. 94% (695,816 people) of "participatory financiers" used these platforms to make donations, with or without a reward: donations, however, account for only 27% of the amounts collected during the first half of 2008.er half of 2017.Less than 1% of "participatory financiers" (6,444 people) make investments: minibonds, bonds, equity investments, investments against royalties. With a much higher average amount, investments represent 21% of the total amount collected.
The average contribution per project is €62.50 for donations, $182 for loans and €3,125 for investments.
According to the Crowdfunding Observatory, 2.8 million French people have financed a crowdfunding project on one of the platforms since their launch in 2011. Since a person may have financed projects on several of these platforms, this figure should be considered with caution.
The average age of "participatory financiers" is much lower than that of traditional financiers.
First, that of "participatory donors": half of them had in 2016 are under 34 years old; only 28% of them are 50 years old and over.The profile of "participatory lenders" is more balanced: one-third 18-34 years old, one-third 35-49 years old, one-third over 50 years old.
The majority of "participatory investors", on the other hand, belong to the 50+ age group; 18-24 year olds represent only 18% of them.
