A few weeks ago, the Territorial Collectivity of Corsica published the results of a " study of the level of appropriation of ICT in Corsica with a view to drawing up the Digital Corsica barometer" .
The level of digital equipment in Corsican households has increased again over the last two years and Corsican Internet users are increasingly accessing the Internet via their cell phones.
95% of Corsican households are equipped with a cell phone, including 79% with smartphones (+10 points since 2014 and +21 points compared to the French average).
"The level of digital equipment of island households has increased again in the last 2 years. Unlike 2014, when the level of equipment of island households was either higher or equal to the national average, it is now higher for all equipment."Connected objects would have, moreover, conquered 10% of households in Corsica, with a peak for the 45-60 years (17%).
Mobile use of the Internet is very popular
The uses of cell phones in Corsican households are all on the rise: consulting news on websites, registering on social networks, and the rise of platforms such as AirBnB or BlaBlaCar.Uses that were previously uncommon in Corsica have increased significantly: +13 points for the use of Twitter.
57% of Corsican Internet users use the Internet to carry out administrative procedures while the national average is 62%. They were 43% in 2014, for a national average of 50%.
The digital divide remains small across territories. Territorial typology has no more influence than in 2014, even for the 14% of households that are not equipped with an internet connection at home.
"A digital divide of social origin is now observable in Corsica
"A digital divide of social origin is now observable in Corsica. It was not in the previous barometers," observe the authors of the Corsican Digital Barometer. In 2016, the gaps widened in terms of both equipment and usage: 88% of executives, professionals and higher intellectuals versus 36% of workers said they were carrying out administrative procedures online; the same CSP+ are 25% to make online purchases 2 to 3 times a week, while the average for all CSPs combined, for an identical frequency, is 11%.- "These emerging fracture elements volens nolens draw a two-speed Internet, likely to generate a feeling of broken promises.
- " Lhe early adopters remain too isolated to allow the anchoring of a culture of innovation in the island society".
