For the first time, the number of Internet subscriptions via optical fiber (FttH networks - Fiber to the Home) exceeds the number of subscriptions via DSL.
In total, according to Arcep14.5 million accesses were active on these networks in the fourth quarter of 2021, representing annual growth of 4.1 million. This growth is supported by the France Very High Speed Plan The goal is to provide very high-speed broadband coverage throughout France by the end of 2022. To achieve this goal, it will mobilize an investment of 20 billion euros over ten years, including 3.5 billion euros from the State.
This number exceeds for the first time the number of broadband and ultra-broadband Internet accesses on copper DSL networks: 14.4 million this quarter.
The number of broadband subscriptions on the DSL copper network continues to fall (- 2.9 million in one year). As a result, as of December 31, 2021, 18.4 million of the 31.5 million Internet accesses were very high-speed (58%), the vast majority of which were FttH subscriptions (79%).
On the mobile Internet side, one year after the marketing of subscriptions allowing the use of 5G networks, the number of customers of operators using these networks has reached around 3 million in mainland France. Their number has almost doubled compared to the third quarter of 2021.
The number of users on 4G networks stands at 66.1 million in Q4 2021: it continues to grow at a steady pace.
