The Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle (MNHN), the Fondation pour la Nature et l'Homme (FNH) and the Union Nationale des Centres Permanents d'Initiatives pour l'Environnement (UNCPIE) have opened a portal, Observatoires Participatifs des Espèces et de la Nature (Open).
This portal lists about one hundred observatories.
By indicating their region, priorities (climate change, endangered species, invasive species) and level of knowledge, people are directed to programs that may be of interest to them.
In 2017, several tens of thousands of people participated in a participatory science program in France.
These volunteer observers have collected thousands of data and posted them on sites of the Museum of Natural History, the CNRS, the Office for Insects and their Environment, and Tela Botanica. Verified and analyzed by scientists or experts, these data feed studies on the evolution of biodiversity.
