In case of loss or theft of a diploma, the procedures to follow steps to follow vary according to the academy, to obtain a certificate of achievement if it is a secondary school diploma (for example: Brevet, Bac etc.) or to obtain a duplicate for a higher education diploma (for example: licence, master, etc.).
Since 2016, the Ministry of Education has been working on the implementation of a teleservice for digital attestation of diplomas (SAND) allowing any student who has graduated from school and higher education to have and attest to his or her success in the examination.
Only the person holding the diploma will be able to access the data concerning him or her: he or she will be able to send a link to access the application to a third party, such as a recruiter, so that he or she can check the authenticity of the documents submitted.
The person wishing to obtain a digital certificate will have to create an account on the "diplome.gouv.fr" website. If a diploma that corresponds in every way with the data of the graduate (without a homonym) is identified in the SAND database, the person concerned will be able to access his or her digital certificate, which will be stored in his or her personal space on the diplome.gouv.fr website.
Approximately 80,000 requests for credentials are filed annually with academic services, which had "a significant cost to the administration."
The service diplome.gouv.fr could concern "an annual flow of 1.6 million diplomas for secondary education and 500,000 for higher education.
This service will be accessible through FranceConnect Education.
It is scheduled to open in the spring of 2019, covering the national diploma of the brevet up to the baccalaureate, as well as the BTS and accounting diplomas of the higher education system, with an anteriority that can go back to 1997 depending on the academy.
The service will gradually open up to state-recognized diplomas from the ministries of agriculture and higher education.
