"More and more households are equipped with electronic goods," observes INSEE, in a note devoted to the digital equipment of households."In 2019, 83% of households own a computer and 96% a cell phone. Young people were the first to adopt these new tools and services, but older people are now seizing them. Thus, 82% of 60-74 year olds and 47% of 75 year olds or more have a computer in 2019, respectively 8 and 15 points more in five years."
Référence :
The proportion of 60-74 year olds who own a computer has increased fourfold in 15 years, from 21% to 81%.
The growth is even more pronounced among those aged 75 and over: 9 times more, from 5% to 47%.
Although late, the diffusion of equipment (cell phone, computer, Internet access) among households whose reference person is 60 years old or more is very fast.
For example, 84% of 60-74 year olds and 50% of 75+ year olds have Internet access in 2019, up from 68% and 27% respectively five years earlier.
The cell phone equipment rate has also risen sharply over the past five years for households with a reference person aged 75 or older, from 60 percent in 2014 to 80 percent in 2019.
