49% of French people say they used a new digital health tool for the first time during the health crisis
On November 19, the delegation for digital health (DNS) presented the results of a survey conducted by the Citizens' conference on digital healththe results of a survey conducted by Opinion Way from July 17 to 30, 2020, among a sample of 2,100 respondents.According to this survey, making appointments and sending medical results online are the digital tools most known and used by the French people surveyed.
One in four respondents contacted the pharmacist or physician by email or text message for the first time during the health crisis.
Some habits are already well established: 70% of respondents have already used online appointment booking and 66% have sent test or diagnostic results online.
However, this appropriation of digital health tools must be qualified. It concerns, in fact, at the moment "especially the populations most acculturated to digital technology such as the CSP+, households with children or inhabitants of the Paris region, but also certain populations with a more fragile health (people with disabilities, ALD beneficiaries, patients with frequent visits to the doctor) or located in medical deserts".
Among the main challenges that digital health care will have to meet in the future, the survey points to simplicity of access and use for the user (for 68% of French people) and efficient data transmission (for 61%).
"51% of French people see the evolution of digital health as something positive, with the main benefits perceived as saving time (for 60% of French people), facilitating communication with the various health care providers (48%), modernizing health care (37%) and finally, having better health monitoring (35%).Référence :
Teleconsultation is a long-term solution
The health crisis has given a powerful boost to teleconsultation. In just a few weeks, it has become an essential tool for supporting and monitoring patients' health. In the first half of 2020, the number of teleconsultations billed to Medicare increased from 40,000 procedures per month to 4.5 million in April. At the time of the containment, teleconsultation represented one consultation out of 4. The government decided to facilitate the use of teleconsultation by decreasing its reimbursement to 100% by the Health Insurance, which has been extended until the end of 2022.
The period of confinement changed the profile of patients benefiting from teleconsultation: those under 30 years of age used it less often (19% compared to 32% before confinement), while those over 70 years of age used it more often (20% compared to 8% before). Still over-represented in densely populated areas (mainly Île-de-France), teleconsultation has continued to progress in other areas.

This crisis has shown the importance of involving the public in the surveillance of the epidemic and in the understanding of its circulation mechanisms.Initiated by the team at the origin of CoronavirusDisease.com, the webapplication SourceCovid.fris a web application that has been online since December 14. It offers to all people who have been affected by the virus or to their relatives to take 2 minutes of their time to help understand the 2nd wave of Covid-19. Its objective is to collect for epidemiological study the circumstances of the infection of people to analyze and visualize its spread since mid-August. In about fifteen questions, this web application aims to better identify the sources of spread of the virus (stores, restaurants, workplaces, family and personal circles ...) since this summer according to the geographical origin of patients, at the regional and departmental levels.
Collected in a totally anonymous way, the data will be analyzed by scientific experts supervised by an independent scientific board composed of representatives of health professionals. The results of this study will be made public on a regular basis and will be published in a scientific journal.
