The Aquitaine, Limousin and Poitou-Charentes regions have been encouraging the development of third places for several years. In 2015 and 2016, they worked together through calls for expressions of interest common to the three regions.
The New Aquitaine region, which resulted from the merger of these three regions, now has 186 third places, including 65 in Gironde and 18 in Vienne.
According to the Coopérative des tiers-lieux, a group of creators and facilitators of third places, 45.5% of these spaces are located in urban areas, 36.4% in rural areas and 18.2% in suburban areas.

In addition to coworking functions, 92% of the region's third places offer other activities, with training and knowledge sharing in the lead, as well as cultural and mediation services, followed closely by catering services. There are also concierge services (16%), stores (11%), recycling centers (9%), housing (7.7%) and digital mediation (6%). The richness of third places is found in the diversity of activities they offer.
The New Aquitaine region has just launched a new Call for Expressions of Interest: it is open continuously until October 1, 2018
"From now on, the challenge for the region is to create a balanced network of local facilities. New Aquitaine plans to have a network of about 300 third places by 2020. Nearly half of the 120 new spaces should be able to be supported by the Region in 4 years".Références :
