The Civic Reserve is a system that brings together organizations that carry out missions of general interest and volunteer candidates, thanks to a digital platform developed within the digital services incubator beta.gouv.fr.
Before the crisis, the project was at a standstill. In just a few days, volunteers and members of the beta.gouv.fr community were mobilized: setting up work tools, remote coordination, structuring the support team, setting up a deployment strategy, coordinating departmental referents in the territory, communication plan, promoting team cohesion, etc.
In three weeks, the civic reserve team grew from 1 to 45 people, coming from three different cultures: the DJEPVA (Directorate of Youth, Popular Education and Associative Life), beta.gouv.fr and three consulting firms, mobilized pro-bono to reinforce the crisis team.
Two partners of the incubator, Octo and Scalingo, have made it possible for the platform covid19.reserve-civique.gouv.fr (ex jeveuxaider.gouv.fr) to host up to 600 volunteers per second.
Today, more than 280,000 volunteers are registered to respond to thousands of requests for missions from more than 8,000 associations.
Volunteers can complete assignments in six areas:
- Food and emergency aid: I distribute basic necessities (food, hygiene...) and meals to the most needy.
- Exceptional childcare: I help babysit children of caregivers or a Child Welfare facility.
- Link with isolated fragile people: I participate in maintaining the link (telephone, video, email...) with isolated fragile people: elderly, sick or disabled people.
- Local solidarity: I shop for essential products for my most vulnerable neighbors
- Remote tutoring: I help students with their homework from a distance.
- Manufacture and distribution of protective equipment for the general public.
