Set up in the emergency during the lockdown at the initiative of the MedNum cooperative, the call number created to break the isolation of people far from the digital world has been a great success. 11,000 calls were received and handled by a network of nearly 2,000 volunteer mediators.
The Mednum had launched on Thursday, March 19 an initiative, supported by the Secretary of State for the Digital and the Bank of Territories, to federate initiatives and mobilize digital mediators, employees and volunteers, social workers.
A toll-free number (01 70 772 372) allowed advisors to assist users remotely by phone: Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm.
In less than 2 weeks, nearly 2000 digital mediators volunteered to advise people on the phone: mainly digital mediators, professionals in the IT sector, social workers, agents of France Services Centres or other public service centres, library and media library staff...
The following took part in this initiative: the hubs for an inclusive digital environment (Médias-Cité, Les Assembleurs, Hinaura, RhinOcc), #APTIC, Mon Assistant numérique, Régie de quartier de Trélazé, Fréquence Ecoles, la Ligue de l'Enseignement, Emmaus Connect - WeTechCare, La Poste... The initiative is supported by the State Secretariat for Digital Affairs and the Banque des Territoires.
"These resources could be activated very quickly," explains Emmanuelle Borrelly, head of the Digital Inclusion and Public Services division at the Banque des Territoires."Three priority topics emerged: communicating with loved ones (help with installing videoconferencing software: Skype, Whatsapp or Zoom), making an online declaration (for the CAF, Pôle emploi...) and also getting information and "finding verified information" about the pandemic."Containment has highlighted the importance of these mediators. There are about 10,000 of them in France today.
