20% growth in 2017 for the National Library of France's online services

Summary

The Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BNF) has just made a first assessment of the visits to its online services; it reports 1.3 million visitors on all the sites of the BNF: bnf.fr, Gallica, Retronews, catalogue resources, data.bnf.fr.

The BNF thus recorded a 20% increase in its audience, with 36 million visits.

  • The BnF's aggregator, data.bnf.fr, has seen its traffic increase by 45%.
  • After its launch in 2016, BnF's news site, Retronews, received 2.3 million visits in 2017.
  • Gallica, the BnF's digital library, saw an 11% increase in usage, receiving nearly 16 million visits in 2017.
The progression of digital uses does not harm, but rather contributes to boosting attendance at BnF's sites and reading rooms: attendance increased by 13% compared to 2016. The reading rooms received 920,000 visitors, reaching a level of attendance that had not been reached for 5 years.

Attendance at events increased by 60%.
