Webassoc is at the initiative of the call Changing the world: the call of 1000 web professionals committed to volunteering. Webassoc is a community of web professionals who help humanitarian, solidarity and environmental associations to strengthen themselves with the internet, completely voluntarily. The Webassoc community gathers today nearly 1000 web professionals and helps each year more than 1500 humanitarian, charitable and environmental associations.
Changing the world: the call of 1000 volunteer web professionals
Our world is getting too used to the unacceptable. We, web professionals, spend more time behind computers than in front of real people, but we still know what a human being is. So we wanted to act: to help humanitarian, solidarity and environmental associations to strengthen themselves with the Internet.
Today, 1000 web professionals are volunteering with us: our rapid growth is a testament to the willingness of web professionals to get involved to make things change. Yes, we believe that another world is possible.
Because we can't accept that a man sleeps outside, that families have to flee their country, that children don't even have drinking water, that some people die of benign diseases or that others are locked up because they are different, that so many animals are mistreated, that biodiversity is collapsing, that global warming is accelerating, etc. We could no longer live as if everything was fine: we had to contribute in an effective way to change this world.
What do we do? With Webassoc and its partners, we train associations and NGOs (in France and elsewhere) to the tools of the web, and help them concretely in the realization of their projects. We help them to make their struggles visible, to mobilize support, to collect donations... with this wonderful tool that the internet can be, we help them to perpetuate their actions for a better world.
The full volunteer model has taken hold. Webassoc doesn't even have a bank account. Our total commitment is our contribution to the world. And without financial means, we are forced to find new solutions to build, together.
With what impact? More than 5500 web accompaniments have been carried out for associations and NGOs since our creation 5 years ago. Along the way, we have changed our view of the world and grown in humanity.
This is what the web should be, let's give it back all its beauty: let's use it to be more connected together, to rediscover everything that unites us as human beings.
Together we move forward.
Everyone builds his commitment and brings his expertise as he can. Everywhere in the world, 1 hour a year or several hours a week, on site or remotely... let's give meaning to our web skills.
